Hi
my name is Mali (pronounced Marley).
My mum named me after a place in Africa
and not after the dog out of the movie Marley & Me
(even though she thinks that sometimes I am as naughty
as the dog in the movie) or Bob Marley.
My life started on the 02/05/2006 at
Kaylian Kennels in Gordon. My mum decided that it was
time for her to get a new puppy after she had lost her
beloved German Shepherd Zara who was 13 years old. She
came to the kennel just to look at all of the puppies
and found me. She picked me to become the newest member
of her family. I think she picked me because I was the
one who ran straight over to her and tugged on the leg
of her jeans and on her heart strings.
So on the 03/07/2006 she came back out
to the kennels and picked me up and took me to my new
home.
This is where I met my new brother Bayne who is also a
German Shepherd and 6 years old at the time of my arrival.
From day 1 Bayne and I would become best friends. I also
have cat brothers named Devo & Jett, but I do drive
those 2 crazy I think.
I
was crate trained. This means I was trained to sleep in
a large crate, which mum put beside her bed so I could
be close to her. This crate very soon became my special
place, I loved my crate. I would put myself to bed when
I was tired and I would also hide all my treasures in
my crate. Mum quite often had to go into my crate and
rescue her shoes and many item of her clothes. I liked
to sleep with her clothes and chew her shoes.
When I was 3 months old Mum and I joined
Ballaarat Dog Obedience Club. Mum just wanted me to learn
the basics like sit, drop, stay, heel and COME! Now I
have mastered all of these exercises all except “come”.
(I still have a slight problem with this one.) You may
well know me as "THAT DOG” who when mum and
I do recalls I am the one who likes to run and visit all
the other classes on the field and say “hi”.
Then I run back to my very red faced mum to face the music....
We are still coming to dog club almost
3 years later and we are now in class 4. And each week
mum and I continue to learn new things. But the real reason
we come is just because we love it and enjoy seeing new
& old friends, both human & canine and the instructors.
My mum adores me even though she says
I push all her button from time to time. She says that
I am very smart, but she is waiting for me to grow up
and for all the training to sink in. She hopes it will
be soon. One day I would like to go into an obedience
trial and if I can get Mum out of bed we might even have
a go at tracking.
Mum
& I would like to take this opportunity to thank all
the instructors who give up their own time every Sunday
morning to teach us all.
Bayne & I have an amazing bond with
our mum, who treats us like her children. We have a great
life and we wish all animals had the life Bayne, Devo,
Jett & I have.
So when you see me running by your class
say “hi” and send me back to my Mum.
See you on Sundays and have fun training,
