Gordie
is my sixth Sheltie. I got him at eight weeks of age,
a small bundle of mischief who made life miserable for
the other two dogs by pulling their tails and ears.
He is the odd one out. All of the
others have been Sable and white and standoffish until
they got to know people, but not Gordie. He is a tri
(black, white & tan) and he loves everyone. I sometimes
think he belongs to the Dog Club and not me.
He loves food, walks, playing ball
and agility. He is not to keen on Obedience or small
dogs, except Scamp a Papillion whom he lives with. He
likes big dogs his favourites are Jackson who is a large
Boxer & Jessie the Labrador.
Gordie loves the car. I am sure he
thinks it belongs to him and not me. He is also very
good at making confetti out of tissues & toilet
rolls & digging small holes in the backyard.
He will chase any stray cats out of
the yard, but when we visit a neighbour, her cats have
him bluffed, and he will detour around them or hide
behind me, expecting me to rescue him.
We do Obedience and some Agility, but
the thing he likes best is Tracking, .......... not
the actual getting up early on a wet cold morning and
going out the bush, but the looking for FOOD. He prefers
NADAC agility, especially Tunnellers & Touch &
Go.
Gordie got his Novice Obedience title
(CD) at our club's obedience trial in November 2005,
(see photo on right) and he is now learning what he
has to do for Open class.
It isn't as much fun as Tracking (no
food!) or Agility and he has to fetch that dreaded dumbbell,
but we will persevere.
Hopefully,
one day we will be able to add CDX to his name.
