We got Beau as a 9 week old pup in June of 2006 from
the RSPCA Peninsula Animal Aid on the Mornington Peninsula
as that is where we were living prior to moving to Clunes
nearly 2 years ago.
Although we were not intending to get another dog after
loosing our 16yr old red heeler, as we still had 3 dogs,
we couldn’t resist the most adorable smoky blue
pup we had ever seen, and we have since found out that
his parents were working farm dogs.
Although
he is a working breed you could say that he is a very
spoilt boy and has never slept outside and loves to sleep
on the bed at night.
Besides Beau’s human family his companions include
3 dogs, 4 cats and 5 sheep. Beau loves to round up the
sheep whenever he gets the chance but he has never been
trained and really doesn’t know what he is doing
and sends the sheep in all directions.
Beau has always gone to obedience school from 3 months
of age and until moving and joining the Ballarat Dog Obedience
Club in June 2008.
I had never thought about trialling but was encouraged
by the instructors to have a go and in April of this year
Beau got his 3rd pass and earned his CCD title.
Besides
doing obedience, we are also learning agility and Beau
is doing quite well, although it is taking me a while
to get it right. We are even thinking of joining NADAC
just for fun.
Beau is also training for flyball, as one of our other
dogs, Barney, is already competing, and hopefully Beau
will be ready to compete later this year at the Yarram
competition.
I must say that every time we arrive at BDOC on a Sunday
morning Beau gets very excited as he can’t wait
to get out of the car and meet all his doggy class mates
and have a couple of hours of fun.
