T. CH. Lerwicklea Allayna CD, AD, JD. (Skye)
Owners — Raeleen, Gordie & Beth
(although Skye thinks she is the boss)
Breed — Shetland sheepdog (Sheltie)
Colour — Sable & White
Age — 10 ½ year old Bitch
I picked up a bundle of fluff in Narre Warren &
on the way home we discussed what to call her. My friend
asked where shelties came from & we decided the
Shetland Isles were no good for a name. As the McLeod’s
come from the Isle of Skye, that is what she was called.
Skye is my 5th Sheltie.
We
started in Obedience and she gained her CD title. Next
however, came the dreaded dumbbell. Her answer to that
was “you threw it, you go fetch it’, so
that was the end of obedience!
We then tried Agility and that was fun. She got a 1st
place in Novice at the Royal Melbourne Show. But Skye
has never been a fast dog, rather just steady, so she
was too slow for Open. We finished competing in agility
having gained AD & JD titles.
So we tried NADAC which has extra times and lower jumps
for veterans. She loves NADAC and at 10½ years
old is still competing happily.
At 9 years Skye started Tracking & loved it –
not for the tracking but for the food she received at
the end of the track! In 12 months she had her Tracking
Champion title along with a very large silver cup presented
by the Tracking Club of Victoria for Veteran of the
year.
Skye definitely rules the roost and if either of the
others steps out of line they get told off in no uncertain
terms.
